GSAPP DATA-MINING THE CITY SEMINAR FALL 2014

The imbalanced economic and labor resources between Hong Kong and Shenzhen have attracted over half a million passengers to cross the border every day. This daily migration between the two cities has formed new groups of people and defined clusters of interests. This work aims to testify the complementarity of the two cities by studying travel pattern, popular destinations, and interest distributions of this migrating population. The work challenges the traditional research methodology by collecting data from social media sites and producing predictions with the technique of machine learning.
